Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle 2023 Runners and Riders: Guide by Horse
The first race on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival is the Triumph Hurdle, where 4-year-olds win the jump competition.
This is a major event on the National Hunt Calendar and is contested only by juveniles and travels two miles and a furlong over the New Course.
No Trainer Has Been More Successful With The Triumph Hurdle Nicky Henderson7 of First Bout (1985), Alone Success (1987), Catalino (1999), Zainer (2009), Soldatino (2010), Peace and Co (2015), Pentland Hills (2019) has received this award on several occasions.
But since the Pentland Hills scored, Ireland have dominated with three straight victories from Burning Victory, Kylisios and Vauban.
The 2020 race will feature a Burning Victory Willie Mullins And Paul Townend will forever be remembered after making his final flight with a yawning advantage over the field after Goshen got his rider out of his seat.
Ireland looks to be in Nap’s hand again in 2023, with the likes of Lossiemouth and Blood Destiny impressive for Mullins, while Gala Marceau and Comfort Zone are also in the mix.

Triumph Hurdle 2023: Runner and Rider
1 Active – Tom Cannon (T: Ben Pauling) 250/1
He was 4 out of 7 in the January trial at odds of 50/1 and has since performed well at Market Rasen’s first hurdle. Zero star rating for his odds because he looks out from his depth. 2 Almcht – Donna Mailer (T: Dennis Hogan) 250/1
I haven’t won in 4 runs since I started hurdles and haven’t progressed in that sequence. Tallest order. 3 Ascending – Rachel Blackmore (T: Henry de Bromhead)
14/1
(**) The promising hurdle succumbs from an 82-rated flat performer second only to Tekao at Christmas, but was beaten heavily last month in the spring Juvenile Hurdle, which was won by Gala Marceau. 4 Blood Destiny – Mr. Patrick Mullins (T: Willie Mullins)
9/4
(*****) So far they have swept the floor with their rivals with impressive hurdle wins at Cork and Fairyhouse. Now the class has risen, but there are many things that I like and represent top connections. 5 gusts or wind – Sean O’Keeffe (T: Willie Mullins)
50/1
(**) The French hurdles winner debuted as Ireland’s champion trainer in the spring junior hurdles. Stamina is an important trait. 6 hypotenuse – Sean Bowen (T: John McConnell)
25/1
(**) An import from France, it made its debut behind Willie Mullins’ inmate Zenta in the Fairy House junior year contest, finishing runner-up. We are currently playing against a stronger team from Croston. 7 Jacobek Cave – Sean Flanagan (T: Paul Hennessy)
250/1
Lacking the class of some of these rivals on the flat, the three hurdles effort in Otome’s company doesn’t suggest that the addition of obstacles would help turn things in his favor. 8 Zipcot
– Luca Morgan (T: Ben Pauling)
50/1 (**) Two-time winner of the hurdles at Pau last month, including the contest listed, before joining this yard. To quell Ireland’s accusations now, it will need to step up significantly. 9 Jupiter du Gite
– Jamie Moore (T: Gary Moore)
50/1 (**) Another French importer, he was a stunning 66/1 winner when he debuted at this garden in Newbury in December, but was put on trial here in January. We need a big leap. 10 Right Atom
– Jack Foley (T: Tom Mullins)
150/1 It was second only to the impressive Zarak the Brave, who wore a Fairyhouse maiden in November’s sole jumpout, but the winner was swept away by Losymouth next time.
11 Shintha
– Brian Hayes (T: Willie Mullins) 200/1
Behind Lossiemouth when they collided at Auteuil last April. Both have since joined Mullins, but Shintha had a steady bow, finishing 50/1 and sixth out of eight in last month’s Spring Juvenile Hurdle.
12 Gala Marceau – Danny Mullins (T: Willie Mullins) 4/1 (***)
It was two of the two over hurdles in France, but no match for stablemate Lossiemouth when he took second place at Christmas with a steady bow. It’s the first comeback since Leopardstown, but unfortunately it’s the runner-up.
13 Your Guard – Michael O’Sullivan (T: Willie Mullins) 100/1 (***)
Finished 3rd in the solo hurdle start at Auteuil in October. The form seems solid and she’s been on Top Connection ever since, but this is a tough start.
14 Rosie Mouse – Paul Townend (T: Willie Mullins) 6/4 (****)
After grading wins at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in December, this is my all-time favorite. A good excuse for a possible rebound after losing to Gala Marceau in last month’s Spring Juniors.
