GoFundMe raises over $41,000 in just one week
On March 10, Sandy Smith organized a GoFundMe page to raise money for an excavation and independent autopsy.
The fundraising goal was $15,000, but in just one week, the page says $41,034 was raised.
According to the GoFundMe page, the Smith family does not want the state to conduct an autopsy at the South Carolina Medical College in Charleston if Smith’s body is exhumed.
“We feel it is important to seek a new target: independent excavations and autopsies,” the page reads. “The state can choose and fund an exhumation and a new autopsy, but despite the lack of evidence to support it, his death was held at MUSC, which was initially classified as a hit-and-run. we understand
“We need a fresh and impartial examination of his corpse to determine the exact cause of his death based on the facts. There was no debris on the road and his injuries were not consistent with a hit and run.” ”

The effort appears to have begun at a time when the Murdoh murder trial was at its height. In February, Smith began posting on his Facebook page, revealing plans to exhume his son’s body for further investigation.
